communication, communication, communication
Although our technology has changed "slightly" from the image above, the principle remains one of the fundamental values of marketing.
Marketing = Communication. And most relationships are built on great communication...or possibly fractured because of a lack of it.
I once worked with a leader who struggled to communicate with his audience consistently. He was terrible at returning phone calls, emails, and text messages. Yet, often, someone would reach out to me because they thought I could express their concerns.
During those conversations, there was always a consistent theme. Each person assumed that this leader didn't care about them. In fact, they had already started to make assumptions about their relationship, which was far from true. So typically, I would talk them down from the ledge and encourage the leader to reach out to try to restore the relationship. Sometimes it worked...other times, it didn't.
When you fail to communicate with your audience, you invite them to connect dots that might not be true...about you, your intentions, and even your character. Don't take that risk!
In today's noisy world, communication is vital. Find a way to provide a consistent and sustainable message...especially for your clients.
And remember that more frequent communication is often better than longer content delivered sporadically.
We are often told that the three most important things for a retail business are location, location, and location.
If you want to build great relationships with your clients and prospects, I suggest focusing on three more important things: communication, communication, and communication.
